• SARASOTA CERAMIC PITCHER, BAY ISLAND
  SARASOTA CERAMIC PITCHER, BAY ISLAND HOTEL,This Warwick China 6-3/4" tall pitcher has a small scene of palm trees with a sign attached for the Bay Island Hotel. This hotel was opened in 1912 at the north end of Siesta Key, which at that time had no electricity, so the hotel had its own generator. Guests came by water, no bridge existed. The 3-story hotel has 65 rooms and served local seafood. In 1917 a bridge was built out to the key and business boomed.The hotel lasted until the early 1950s. The pitcher is in good condition except for a large prominent crack that runs from the top to the bottom and partway across the bottom. Stains have seeped into the crack making it dark; it could possibly be bleached. Fortunately the piece displays well; the side with the hotel scene does not contain the crack.
